Tahu Serasi Oom Shin

Tahu Serasi Oom Shin is the eldest beancurd factory in Bandungan, resort district of Semarang. The factory is actually look like an open air garage with only a single line of long chairs and tables.

Banaran 9 Coffee & Tea

On our way back to Jogja, we stopped by at Banaran-9 for an afternoon tea. Located inside a coffee plantation, it was lush in greenery and refreshingly cold. Banaran-9 served mains, snacks, and beverages. Foods were 11-20.5k, beverages were 3-20k. For full list of menus, click here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Coffee production tour was available during weekdays on 20k/pax. Coffee plantation tour was also available on their branch in Bawen for 50k/pax.

Tahu Pong Karangsaru

Our next stop was Tahu Pong Karangsaru. Reviews said that it was the best one in Semarang and even used as part of royal wedding catering in Yogyakarta Palace. It was MSG-free and even the ketchup was self-made.

Tahu Pong Komplit 22k consists of tahu pong (hollow-centered beancurd; but not as hollow as Tahu Sumedang), tahu emplek (standard beancurd), gimbal udang (shrimp fritters) and boiled-then-fried eggs. Sidedishes were chopped green-and-birdeye chilli, self-made black soybean ketchup and pickled radish. Mineral water and unsweetened tea was free of charge. Taste was good and the portion was big, but i did still think that it was overpriced. Some of my friend even develop a beancurd-phobia post this visit, thanks to the overpricing policy.

However, I did actually like the beancurd quality, so I gave them One Star (based on AFJ’s Food Critic’s Rating System Guidelines
